What is Max?

1. Max has more to see, something for every mood and for the whole household. It brings together the very best of Warner Bros. Discovery’s unparalleled catalogue of premier content and iconic brands. It is home to the highest quality entertainment across all genres and categories including:

What is the difference between HBO Max and Max?

1. Max is the streaming home of WBD in Europe and will showcase our vision for streaming. Max is a unique combination of HBO, WB, the DC Universe, Discovery Channel, TLC, ID, HGTV, kids’ content, Eurosport together with Olympic Games Paris 2024, and live simulcasts of networks and local productions in select countries.

Why change the name to Max? What about HBO?

1. Max broadens our reach and potential subscriber base by inviting subscribers to experience our expansive content offering while not further stretching the HBO brand.

2. HBO has a privileged position within Max as a hero brand within the navigation bars of the service to enable customers to find curated and targeted HBO content with one click.

In what European countries will Max be available in?

1. On 21st May, Max will initially launch in the Nordics, Iberia and countries within CEE.
  • Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Spain.

2. The launches in Poland, and the Netherlands are confirmed for June, and France and Belgium will follow closely after. The exact dates will be confirmed in due course.
  • France and Belgium are the first new countries where WBD has launched a streaming service in over two years.

3. After these launches, Max will be available in 25 countries across Europe.

4. Additional territories where Max will be available are Monaco, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, La Réunion, Mayotte, Martinique, Saint Martin, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Saint Barthelemy, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Wallis and Futuna, French Southern and Antarctic Territories.

SPORTS AND NEWS

Will Max offer live sports across Europe?

1. Max will stream live and on-demand sports in all European countries where the service is available.

2. This summer, Max will be the only place to stream every live moment of Olympic Games Paris 2024 in the European markets where Max is available.
  • Paris 2024 on Max in all base plans is a game changer for fans.

3. Additionally, Eurosport’s extensive sports coverage including Grand Slam tennis and cycling’s Grand Tours will be on Max with our Sports Add-On which may be added to any base plan. (Rights vary between countries.)
  • Live sport presents a tremendous opportunity and differentiator for Max.

4. WBD Sports is home to the most coveted sports rights in EMEA.
  • We reach +100m viewers every month in EMEA... in at +154 million homes across Europe, across 54 territories, delivered in 21 different languages.

What will happen to the Eurosport premium SVOD service in Europe?

1. We’re going ‘all in’ on Max in Europe as consumers want simplicity and have decided to wind down the Eurosport premium SVOD service in the European markets where Max is available. Following the launch of Max in these markets, it will close before Paris 2024.

2. Customers will be able to subscribe to Max, in the markets where Max is available, to continue watching all the action previously available on the Eurosport premium SVOD service.

3. discovery+ will continue to stream full coverage of Paris 2024 in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Italy markets as planned.

Will Eurosport be available to watch on Max in Europe?

1. All of Eurosport’s extensive sports coverage, including Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, will be available to watch on Max in Europe and will be available via our Sports Add-On which may be added to any base plan. Rights vary by country.

Will you have CNN / CNN Max on Max in Europe?

1. Max will launch in Poland and France with live news from CNN’s international linear network. We plan to experiment and learn from this, much like we did with the launch of CNN Max in open beta in the U.S.

2. CNN Max will not be initially available on Max in Europe. However as with any new service, we’ll be reviewing what’s offered on a continual basis.

PROGRAMMING AND CONTENT

What’s the content strategy for Max?

1. Max will feature extraordinary stories for everyone, with a diverse collection of content of the highest quality in entertainment across all genres and formats, from WBD's extensive family of iconic brands in Europe, including HBO, WB., the DC Universe, Discovery, Eurosport, ID, Cartoon Network as well as the most beloved franchises by fans around the world, including GAME OF THRONES, HARRY POTTER, THE BIG BANG THEORY, DC superheroes, LOONEY TUNES characters, RICK & MORTY, NAKED AND AFRAID and 90 DAY FIANCÉ, among others.

WBD reduced its commitment to original local production across Europe so will there be much local content?

1. WBD is committed to investing in thousands of hours of European original content, both productions and acquisitions across all genres and many countries.

2. As any media entertainment company, we must prioritise our spend as it’s simply not possible to do everything. However, our investment remains considerable, and we have big ambitions to strengthen our position as a leading player in EMEA and bring high quality local content to the region.

What is Max offering for Kids?

1. There will be over 1500 hours of kids’ content on Max at launch. After that we’ll premiere over 100 hours of new episodes in the first 12 months after launch.

2. The content highlight will be Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, a 10-part series produced by Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation Studios and exec produced by Steven Spielberg.

3. Our catalogue consists of a host of world-famous and much-loved characters and IP from Cartoon Network Studios, Warner Bros. Animation Studios, and Hannah Barbera Studios Europe (based in London). For example:
  • Tom & Jerry
  • Looney Tunes
  • Teen Titans Go (from the DC universe)
  • Batwheels (also from the DC universe)
  • Scooby Doo
  • The Amazing World of Gumball
  • Adventure Time

4. It’s incredibly important that kids in Europe see characters and stories that reflect their own experiences and lives. That’s why 50% of our new content slate is commissioned and acquired from independent 3rd party studios based in Europe. This includes well known titles like Grizzy and the Lemmings and Totally Spies.

5. We also acquire 3rd party catalogue titles that we know kids love. For example, Peppa Pig and LEGO Ninjago will be on the platform from launch

PLANS & PRICING

Basic with Ads Plan

1. This plan will allow users to enjoy Max at a lower price and will include advertising*.

2. It will be available first in nine European countries, before expanding to others.
  • They are Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Romania, Poland, France, and Belgium.

3. Users will be able to stream content on 2 devices simultaneously.

4. Content will be available in Full HD resolution.

* Channels and live content in Standard and Ultimate plans, and the Sports Add-On may also contain ads. On-demand content in all plans may include sponsorship and product placement.

Standard Plan

1. Users can stream content on 2 devices simultaneously.

2. Content will be available in Full HD resolution.

3. This plan will allow up to 30 downloads of available content to watch offline.

Premium Plan

1. Provides the best consumer experience.

2. Users can stream content on up to 4 devices simultaneously.

3. Content will be available in Full HD or 4K resolution and with Dolby Atmos sound (as available).

4. This plan will allow up to 100 downloads of available content to watch offline. Limits apply.

Sports Add-On

1. A Sports Add-On will bring fans extensive coverage of major international and European sports including every tennis Grand Slam - Australian Open, Roland-Garros, The Championships, Wimbledon and the US Open, cycling’s three Grand Tours including Giro d’Italia, La Vuelta a España, and the Tour de France in addition to the Tour de France Femmes, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and every major winter sports World Championship and World Cup events. Rights vary between countries.

MIGRATION

Will avatars, subscriber billing info and previous downloads be transferred over?

1. HBO Max users will have their previous profiles and avatars, watch history, “Continue Watching” and “My List” items waiting for them to stream on Max. Previous HBO Max downloads will not rollover to Max - customers will have to re-download content on the new app.

2. Subscribers with age restricted settings on their HBO Max profiles will need to check their age settings again once they migrate to Max to ensure they or their family members are only able to view age-appropriate content.

Will profiles from HBO Max carry over to Max for personalization right at launch? Or will personalization data be collected once users start interacting with Max and their HBO Max viewing habits data is not included in that?

1. Max users will have a personalized experience as soon as they dive into the platform based on their prior watch history.

2. HBO Max subscribers will be able to discover this new experience while maintaining their current profiles, settings, and viewing history, continuing their Max journey exactly where they left off.

Will users be able to access Max outside of their home country?

1. Max users, and HBO Max users in the Netherlands and Belgium, will be able to access the platform within the Max footprint and to access their home country service across the EEA in accordance with the rules under the Portability Regulation.

2. The Max footprint will include the Max territories in Europe, 39 territories across Latin America and the Caribbean and the U.S. Once we launch Max in other countries, Max will also be available under the same global roaming and portability policies.

What will happen to HBO Max in existing HBO Max markets? When will it be sunset?

1. On launch day, subscribers will either have their HBO Max apps automatically updated to Max or others will need to download the updated Max app to access the expanded catalog.

2. For those customers needing to download the new Max app, once it is installed the HBO Max app can be deleted from their device. If subscribers access the service via the web, it will redirect automatically to Max.

Will HBO linear subscribers who currently access HBO Max through their providers have access to Max? If so, would there be an increase in price?

1. If you currently access HBO Max via your cable or satellite TV package, please reach out to your local provider to understand if you will have access to Max and for additional details.
